Answers for families and visitors.

Creating a Memorial

How do I create an account on VigilGarden?

Simply visit the site and click "Start a Memorial." You'll provide an email and password, then create your loved one's memorial space. No payment is required—your account and their memorial page are always free. You can invite family members to help manage it together anytime.

How can I add information about the deceased, like date of birth and place of death?

When creating the memorial, you'll add your loved one's name, dates of life, and a brief biography. You can include their birthplace, where they rested, or any details meaningful to your family. All information can be edited later—there's no rush to fill in everything at once.

How do I edit or remove information about my loved one after their passing?

From your memorial page, click "Edit" to update any information, photos, or text at any time. You can remove entries—nothing is permanent or irrevocable. Approved memories and tributes are managed from your dashboard. Our support team can also help if you need to revert a major change.

Who can create a memorial?

Anyone. If you're a close family member or friend, you can create one. If the family later finds it, they can take over and invite others to help manage it together.

Candles & Tributes

Is VigilGarden free?

Yes. Creating a memorial and visiting one are always free. Lighting a tribute candle, leaving flowers or keepsakes, and keeping an annual candle lit are optional ways to give. The Remembrance Circle emails are free once you join.

How much does it cost to light a candle?

A tribute candle glows for 30 days and costs $1.99. An annual candle ($20.00/year) keeps the memorial's main light steady through the seasons. Both are optional gifts, not requirements.

What happens after a candle's 30 days end?

It gently fades, joining the tributes left in love. The memorial page stays whole and bright. The family's annual candle, if lit, keeps the main light glowing year-round.

What's the difference between a 30-day candle and the annual candle?

A tribute candle is a guest's 30-day gesture of remembrance. The annual candle is how families keep the memorial's primary light steady throughout the year. Either can be given, and both matter.

What if we don't renew the annual candle?

The memorial stays live and complete—it simply rests without the steady glow. It remains a quiet place to visit, whole and unhurried. When someone lights a tribute candle, the whole page brightens again. You can renew anytime.

How do I make a payment for tribute candles or annual memorial candles?

When you light a candle, you'll choose the type (30-day tribute or annual), then enter your payment details securely. We accept major credit and debit cards. Payment is processed immediately, and your candle begins glowing right away. You can light as many as you wish, anytime.

What's your refund policy?

If something isn't right with a tribute or candle, write to us through the help page and we'll make it right. Our full refund policy is linked below.

Family Control & Privacy

How does approval work?

The family (or whoever manages the memorial) decides what appears publicly. Memories, tributes, and new circle members can require approval before showing. You're always in control of your loved one's space.

Can I keep my memorial private?

Yes. You choose: public (searchable and open to visitors), unlisted (only people with the link), or private. You can change these settings anytime.

What kind of photos can be uploaded to the memorial page?

You can upload photos of your loved one, family moments, or meaningful places—in JPG, PNG, or GIF format. There's no strict limit on how many, so build a full gallery. Keep file sizes reasonable (under 5MB), and remember that all photos will be visible to your chosen audience.

Can I restrict which family members access certain parts of the page?

VigilGarden currently allows you to control overall privacy (public, unlisted, or private), but not section-by-section restrictions just yet. However, you fully manage all approvals—decide exactly what memories, tributes, and names appear publicly. If you need fine-grained family roles, let us know; we listen to what grieving families truly need.

Remembrance Circle & Reminders

How do Remembrance Circle reminders work?

Join the circle and receive quiet emails on the dates that matter: birthdays, passing anniversaries, and any personal dates the family adds (like an anniversary you shared). One email per date, and nothing more.

Can I unsubscribe from Remembrance Circle emails?

Yes, anytime. A simple link in every email lets you step away. You can rejoin the circle later if you change your mind.

Do Remembrance Circle reminders require me to log in or take any action?

No. Reminder emails arrive quietly in your inbox on the dates that matter. You can read them, visit the memorial to light a candle, or simply remember—whatever feels right. No login, no button-clicking required. Unsubscribe anytime if you need a break.

Technical

How do I view my memorial page on a mobile device?

VigilGarden works beautifully on all mobile devices—phones, tablets, and more. Simply open the site in your browser; no app download is necessary. The memorial adapts fluidly to any screen size, so visitors can light candles, leave memories, and join the Remembrance Circle from anywhere, anytime.

What are QR codes for?

Families can generate a QR code that links a physical place—a grave, garden bench, or home—to the memorial online. Visitors scan it to remember together, online and in person.
